Job Overview: As a Phlebotomist, you will play a crucial role in the healthcare system by performing venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures. Your primary responsibility is to collect blood samples from patients for diagnostic testing. You will ensure the accuracy of specimen labeling, maintain a sterile and safe environment, and provide compassionate care to patients during the collection process.

Responsibilities:

  1. Venipuncture: Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood samples from patients of all ages using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  2. Specimen Collection: Collect other specimens, such as urine, saliva, or swabs, as required for various diagnostic tests or research purposes.
  3. Patient Interaction: Interact with patients in a compassionate and professional manner, explaining procedures, alleviating concerns, and ensuring their comfort and safety during the collection process.
  4. Specimen Processing: Label specimens accurately, verify patient information, and ensure proper handling and storage of specimens to maintain sample integrity.
  5. Documentation: Complete requisition forms, accurately record patient information, test codes, and other relevant data in the laboratory information system or patient records.
  6. Quality Assurance: Adhere to established protocols, safety guidelines, and quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
  7. Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on phlebotomy equipment, including cleaning, calibration, and troubleshooting, to ensure proper functioning.
  8. Compliance: Follow all regulatory requirements,  infection control protocols, and laboratory policies and procedures.
  9. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, physicians, and laboratory staff, to ensure seamless patient care and specimen processing.

Requirements:

  1. Certification: Completion of a phlebotomy training program from an accredited institution and certification as a Phlebotomist.
  2. Technical Skills: Proficiency in venipuncture and specimen collection techniques, with knowledge of different collection tubes, equipment, and safety procedures.
  3. Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, and healthcare providers.
  4. Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail and accuracy in specimen labeling, documentation, and record-keeping to ensure patient safety and data integrity.
  5. Compassion: Compassionate and empathetic demeanor, with the ability to provide emotional support to patients during the collection process.
  6. Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift and move equipment, and work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure and professionalism.
  7. Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as per the needs of the healthcare facility
