Job Overview: As a Lab Technician, you will play a vital role in the medical laboratory by performing various technical tasks to support laboratory operations and facilitate accurate diagnostic testing. Your responsibilities will include specimen processing, conducting laboratory tests, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring compliance with quality control standards and safety protocols. You will work collaboratively with other laboratory staff to deliver timely and reliable test results to support patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Specimen Processing: Receive, accession, and prepare patient specimens for analysis, including labeling, centrifugation, aliquoting, and distribution to appropriate laboratory sections.
- Laboratory Testing: Perform a variety of laboratory tests, such as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, and urinalysis, according to established protocols and procedures.
- Instrument Operation: Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, including analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, and other specialized laboratory instrumentation, ensuring accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Quality Control: Perform quality control procedures, calibrate instruments, troubleshoot technical issues, and participate in proficiency testing to maintain the accuracy and precision of laboratory testing.
- Data Analysis: Analyze test results, interpret findings, and accurately document and report test data in laboratory information systems or electronic medical records.
- Compliance: Adhere to regulatory requirements, and other accreditation standards, as well as laboratory policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, and biohazardous waste disposal.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and manage laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage conditions.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with laboratory staff, including pathologists, technologists, and phlebotomists, to prioritize workload, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure efficient laboratory operations.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in laboratory techniques and procedures, including specimen processing, analytical testing, and instrument operation. Familiarity with automated laboratory equipment and computerized information systems.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and accuracy in specimen handling, testing, and documentation to ensure reliable test results and patient safety.
